The Bernese Oberland in the heart of Switzerland. The Simmen Falls above the village of Lenk offer an unusual sight in summer 2013. Lake Faverges of the Plaine Morte glacier has erupted, abruptly transforming the river into a raging torrent. An impressive but also dangerous natural spectacle. The new phenomenon not only keeps the population in the valley on tenterhooks, but also scientists. Together with geologist Daniel Tobler, geomorphologist Isabelle Kull is investigating the eruption on behalf of the local authorities. The two have installed the alarm system in the lake and want to explore different scenarios of future development in the Plaine Morte area. After all, waterfalls like this one can quickly create flood situations in the valley and thus threaten the entire community.
