This is a Song Written for my Wife Dina, who is Peruvian Indian.
Recorded and produced by Jon Sherling for a PASA event on
August 24, 2013.
Mountains of Peru
In the years come and gone
And the years revolving on
Never has a spoken word
From a land of a foreign tongue
Been flung to the shores of gathered psalm
I lift my candle to the sun
For I had found you, my friend
Through the echoes of the laughs of our children
As they played in the distance between
The edge of the hotel pool
And the mountains of Peru
As my surest side
You are both the mirror and the light
And I've loved you as the sovereign night
Reflects the past of Spanish flight
From the Andes to the Queen of Hearts
I lift my candle to the stars
For I had found you, my friend
Through the echos of the laughs of our children
As they played in the distance between
The Halls of the high school
The edge of the hotel pool
And the mountains of Peru
In a time where time remains
In the turning of the page
Betzy and Josie's birthday cake
Bobby and Bryan playing fetch
And you, the Ancient Inca Plains
I lift my candle to your name
For I had found you, my friend
Through the echoes of the laughs of our children
As they played in the distance between
The shadows of our room
The Halls of the high school
The edge of the hotel pool
And the mountains of Peru
