Fascinating to learn more about this volcanic event that my mom witnessed when she was a teen. 39 years after the eruption in 1980, it is one of the most magnificent and breathtaking views I have ever seen, and it's right here in the my Washington State backyard in the Cascade Mountain Range!
Admission to the Johnston Ridge Observatory is free every year on May 18th, which is the day that the eruption happened.
