Opened on West Bonanza Road in May 1955 as the first racially integrated casino in Las Vegas, the Moulin Rouge attracted such famous black entertainers as Louis Armstrong, Harry Belafonte, Count Basie and Sarah Vaughan and made the cover of Life magazine. But the casino, which also played host to white performers such as George Burns and Judy Garland, shut down before the end of 1955 due to financial failure.
