We went to the Michelin Pilot Challenge Fox Factory 120 and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on October 11, 2024.
The 10-hour Motul Petit Le Mans was on Saturday, October 11th 2024 but we had a blast at the qualifying events on Friday. The FOX Factory 120 showcased the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. This 120-minute sprint to the checkered flag featured race showcases manufacturers from Chevrolet, BMW, Porsche, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG, Aston Martin and more. The Road Atlanta track is a 2.54-mile, 12-turn natural terrain road course built in 1970.
After the Fox Factory 120 we watched the qualifying rounds for the Petit Le Mans. Motul Petit Le Mans serves as Round Five of the Michelin Endurance Cup.
Before the race we were able to check out the cars - Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Mustang, Acura - getting ready for the race. We then checked out several viewing points including Spectator Hill and Terrace B Seating. I think Terrace B Seating is the best seating area - it is a short walk from the entrance and it has a great view!
The WeatherTech Championship Classes of Competition:
Grand Touring Prototype (GTP)
The newest and most technologically advanced Prototype race car. Acura, Cadillac, BMW and Porsche – are entered in the class. Each manufacturer developed its own unique internal combustion engine and bodywork styling.
Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2)
Closed-cockpit car.
GT Daytona (GTD)
The GT Daytona cars are from leading manufacturers such as Acura, Aston Martin, McLaren, BMW, Ferrari, Lexus, Mercedes-AMG, Lamborghini, and Porsche.
GT Daytona Pro (GTD PRO)
GTD PRO includes race cars built to FIA GT3 technical regulations. Manufacturers include Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Chevrolet, Lexus, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche.
This was a great event in Braselton Georgia and I can't wait to go back next year!
