You hear big promises about Bosch Motorsport ABS systems. We wanted proof. Bosch Motorsport Australia supplied an M5 Club Sport system for our GT86 with no strings attached. We baseline tested the car with the factory ABS, then installed the Bosch kit and repeated the same testing to see what changed.
This video explains how motorsport ABS differs from road ABS in priority and calibration, why slip ratio matters, and how driver technique changes to let the system work. We cover hydraulic bias, the 12-position adjustment strategy, and how the system reports suggested brake bias over CAN for fast setup. We also show the installation considerations, including pedal box choices, plumbing, and data logging integration with a MoTeC dash.
The results:
From 200 km/h to 0, the average stopping distance improved from 111.2 m to 92.8 m. That’s 18.4 m shorter or about 17% better. The Bosch Motorsport ABS also removed the inconsistent “ice mode” behavior we experienced with the stock system, delivering repeatable braking that builds driver confidence and lets you brake later with control.
This isn’t the cheapest mod, and installation is involved. But gains of this magnitude are rare once a car is already well developed. Based on our testing, the benefits are very real.
Key points covered:
• Road ABS vs motorsport ABS priorities
• Slip ratio and maximum braking force
• 12-position ABS adjustment for changing grip
• Brake bias setup and CAN-reported suggestions
• Installation overview and logging integration
• 200 to 0 testing methodology and results
• Driving technique changes for ABS
• Real-world track impressions
