The Motorola 68040 is a 32-bit microprocessor originally released in 1990. The “LC” marking on this part stands for “Low Cost”, which was accomplished by removing the Floating Point Unit from the die. This particular part also runs at 33MHz, as indicated in the part number. The 68040 parts also came in 25 and later 40MHz models. The 68040 had a total of 8KB of level 1 cache (4KB instruction, 4KB data) and a six stage pipeline.

Thanks to @siliconinsider for pointing me to a document that has lots of information about these parts. In the upper right hand corner on the front side is “2E23G” which denotes the mask revision. The 2E23G mask is an 80% shrink of the die, for example (from 0.8µm). This mask revision actually introduced a bug into the silicon that was related to using a software FPU emulator (FPU emulators were necessary due to the FPU being removed from silicon). The 68040 was used in a few different Apple products of the time, like the PowerBook 500 series.
