In this video, we show how to motorize the Hurricane Skimmer 128 using the Bixpy K-1 Motor, Simple Gudgeon, and Universal Versa Rudder. ⚡🛶
The Skimmer 128 is already rudder-ready, making this one of the easiest kayak motor installations possible. The kayak comes with two pre-drilled holes at the rear, so there’s no drilling or permanent modification needed.
To install the setup:
Remove the factory screws
Attach the Bixpy Simple Gudgeon
Install the Universal Versa Rudder with the K-1 Motor
From there, you have two steering options depending on how you want to use your kayak.
⚙️ Option 1: Pole Steering (Quickest Setup)
The fastest and simplest option is adding the Bixpy Pole Steering System.
Attach the telescopic steering handle to the rudder setup and control the motor directly from your seat with smooth turns and quick maneuvering. This setup installs fast and keeps everything simple and clean.
⚙️ Option 2: Foot Steering System
If you prefer steering with your feet, you can install the Bixpy Foot Pedal Steering System.
Replace the factory foot braces with the Bixpy steering pedals, run the steering lines through the kayak, and connect them to the V-Arm on the Universal Versa Rudder. This gives you hands-free steering while keeping full control of the kayak and motor.
Both options are straightforward installs because the kayak is already designed for rudder integration. No custom drilling, no complicated fabrication—just a clean motor-ready setup. 🌊
