The Moto Guzzi Le Mans is a sports motorcycle produced since 1976 by Moto Guzzi. Its name derives from the 24 Hours endurance motorcycle race of Le Mans, France. The original 850 Le Mans was a café racer with clip-on handlebars and a "bikini" fairing, but later models were developed as sport touring bikes with a three-quarter fairing. A great sales success, the Le Mans competed against the other Italians Ducati and Laverda. The Le Mans was developed in several subsequent models, until 1993. For this model the tank was increased to a capacity of 25 liters (previously it was 22) and the fairings and the fairing were reduced. The instrument panel has also been reduced to three instruments with a large white Veglia tachometer in the centre. The heads were redesigned, the cylinder cooling fins were squared off. The distribution rods were moved laterally in view of future increases in displacement. The carburettor and exhausts were revised to give the engine an improvement in terms of power and torque. The chassis was modified to accommodate an oil vapor purification system, which made Guzzi the first Italian manufacturer to comply with American anti-pollution limits. Minor changes were made to the rear suspension and front forks.
