Uncivilized Elk | mother! Review – Creativity, Control, & Christianity (oops, all allegory!) @uncivilizedelk | Uploaded October 2017 | Updated October 2024, 35 minutes ago.
The 2017 film mother! (which Darren Aronofsky deliberately titled lowercase to contrast the capitalization of god in monotheistic religions) has received a polarizing reception during its theatrical run. My reaction is probably best described as the warmer end of lukewarm. I low-key liked the film, and didn’t regret seeing it at the theater by the time the credits rolled... but I probs wouldn’t watch mother! a second time. If you dislike the ENTIRETY of a plot being allegorical, this movie is unlikely to be your cup o' tea!
