First of all I'd like to say that I hope you all know I am the first to stand up and say that religion is not a force for good in this world, and I am perfectly aware and conscious of the fact that 9/11 was certainly religiously motivated. Nor am I trying to detract from the horrors of the 9/11 terrorist attacks (I cannot believe I actually have to fucking say that). But that doesn't mean that all religious people are extremists and terrorists.
To be quite honest I'm disgusted with Pat Condell's latest videos. It appears that he has done nothing but prey on people's credulity and willingness to give in to knee-jerk reactions as a way to recruit new converts to his war against 'Islamonazism', and his portrayal of Islam's presence in Europe and the UK is nothing short of fear-mongering. Yes there has been an influx of Muslims to Europe and the UK. Why? Because we're not living in the 1800s. The truth behind this issue is far more benign. I also feel that this constant strawman of attacking 'political correctness' in favour of 'common sense' is dishonest and grossly misleading, again preying on emotion over reason and facts.
Blocking the construction of this mosque will be an infringement on this man's rights and a wasted opportunity to take both a step in the right direction and to take the moral high ground.
