The mortise and tenon is the most significantly important joint in all of woodworking. It's also likely the oldest joint. Used extensively in crafts ranging from furniture making to the building trades. It's also easy and simple to make with only a few inexpensive tools yet because of it's importance many people shy away from it in favor of much less robust solutions.


Today we learn a few tips, techniques, theories and practices in creating examples of a mortise and tenon joint with only a chisel, mallet, gauge and brain.
