This is a live morning-walk episode of Living With MS in Tenerife, hosted by Tim Dowd. It begins at Puerto Colón, where Tim is walking with Dermot, an Irish truck driver from North Dublin who is staying at Club Atlantis with his wife Mandy and 10-year-old son Carter. The holiday marks Dermot and Mandy’s 12th wedding anniversary.
The walk heads east along the Costa Adeje seafront towards Las Américas. Tim points out Playa Bobo, Playa de Troya, local hotels, the Adeje–Arona boundary and an accessible route through Monica’s bar that lets wheelchair users bypass steps. He also discusses the long-derelict Mundos nightclub and the surrounding bars and landmarks.
The conversation covers July tourism levels, Dermot’s easy airport arrival, holiday costs, Irish bars, drink prices and Dermot’s Shogun whale-watching excursion, including the Pirates of the Caribbean music on departure and the Jaws theme when passengers entered the water.
Tim then tells the story of how he became a close-up magician. His interest began with television magician David Nixon, later Paul Daniels and teenage bar bets. The turning point was meeting world-champion card magician Rovi, whose real name was Ivor Parry, at a furniture shop in North Wales. Rovi invited Tim to an International Brotherhood of Magicians gala in Caernarfon, where Tim’s father was custodian of Caernarfon Castle. Tim bought The Royal Road to Card Magic and went on to perform professionally.
The walk reaches Monkey Beach Club before turning back. Tim and Dermot continue discussing the promenade, motorcycle noise, Irish bars, local businesses and the new beach-club venue Stars, also referred to as Estrellas, beside the Jardín Tropical complex.
The main stop is coffee at Stars. They sit outside with views towards La Gomera. The barman, Albano, confirms that the venue opened in January. Dermot orders café con leche; Tim orders café bombón and sparkling water. Tim reads menu prices including nachos, prawns, pizza, pasta, burgers and crepes. Dermot shows a balcony video from room 464 at Club Atlantis, looking across the mountains, La Pinta Beach and the harbour.
The discussion then turns to housing and rents. Tim mentions a two-bedroom Callao Salvaje apartment advertised at €360,000 despite the owner apparently being prepared to accept €300,000–€310,000. They discuss renters paying more than comparable mortgages, asset-price inflation, Gary’s Economics and Tim’s idea of using a large Euromillions win to buy homes and rent them affordably.
Other topics include a proposed EU charge affecting Shein packages, upcoming channel guests, the Nebula bar, German beer prices, Dermot’s family holiday plans and reports of wildfires near Dovestone or Hardin that prompt Tim to say he should call his sister.
The stream nearly ends when the battery falls to 1–2%, but plugging in at Stars saves it. Tim gives Dermot a warm send-off and speaks directly to Carter and Mandy. Dermot leaves,
