Arizona Highway 191 passes right through the middle of the massive Morenci Mine—the largest copper mine in North America. As the mine expands, they've actually had to relocate sections of the highway multiple times to stay ahead of the excavation.
The scale is almost impossible to comprehend. Those tiny specks in the distance? They're giant haul trucks. The "pond" at the bottom? Part of the copper extraction process.
We've seen a lot of mines in our travels, but nothing quite like this.
