Our recent family trip to Malaysia wasn't "just a holiday", it was returning to a place that feels like a second home in a way I can't always explain…
The smells. The sounds. The warmth. The familiarity.
It's the country where Claudia’s late mother was born and where so many of the people she and I love live.
Grief is a strange thing- sometimes it arrives as homesickness. A heavy weight in your chest.
Sometimes it tastes like a meal you haven't had in years. A flavour you can't quite put your finger on that sends you back to when you were too small to see over the kitchen table. Sometimes it's wanting just one more conversation with the people who knew your mother before you did.
Taking our girls to meet family and experience their Malaysian heritage for the first time, watching them hear the languages, taste the food, see the streets, and be surrounded by relatives who already loved them... I know it felt healing in a way Claudia didn't know she needed.
Mental health isn't only about rest or therapy or fresh air. It's also about connection, family, heritage, community and feeling understood without having to explain yourself.
For Claud, Malaysia is part of that healing 🇲🇾
If you've ever felt emotionally restored by reconnecting with your culture, family, or a place that feels like home, l'd love to hear about it below ❤️
