Isolated pockets of rain with hit-or-miss lightning strikes are present in some western to northern areas, but much clearer skies are present to the southeast, as most are starting off milder than average. Yesterday's storms are keeping some of the low-level moisture in place in the mountains to western, northern, & northeastern parts of New Mexico as gusty northwesterly winds are present in parts of the Rio Grande Valley, while breezy southeasterly winds are present in the southeast plains.
Relatively mild air is present as northern areas are mostly starting off in the 40s to lower 60s. Elsewhere to the south, air temperatures are mostly ranging from the high 50s to the 70s.
High temperatures will still mostly be around if not below average in the northwest majority of the region with the thunderstorms, but temperatures will mostly be above average elsewhere. Most areas from eastern New Mexico to the Pecos River Valley area will range from the 80s to near 100° from north-northwest to south-southeast from high to low elevation. The northern higher elevations will mostly range from the upper 50s to below 70°, while the northern valley floors to western and central areas will mostly range from the 70s to 90s.
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will form across most of the mountains to nearby areas through a vast majority of northwestern areas through parts of the Central Mountains, some parts of the Rio Grande Valley to eastern areas, and fewer parts of southeastern New Mexico. Storms are capable of producing torrential downpours, hail, erratic wind gusts, and frequent lightning strikes.
Surrounding the Monsoon high pressure ridge in the southern part of the country, a partial jet stream drop, with southwesterly winds over the region, is allowing for moisture to move into the region with a drop in temperatures compared to recent days. However, as the high pressure starts to strengthen well off to the east while slowly drifting back to the west, fewer storms and higher temperatures will return for most of the week.
