A video showing the site of the lynching, and the burials of the four young people who were killed at Moore's Ford - alongside their baby. What stuck out so much about this to me was the date: Most lynchings in Georgia occurred around the early 1900s around certain key events. Initially, racial violence in West Georgia resulted in a mass lynching at the hands of the sheriff of Harris County. After this, the book The Klansman stoked some racial violence, which accelerated into a riot when it was adopted in play form the following year, during which time dozens of black men were ambushed and killed in Atlanta. Georgia saw surges in racial violence after the end of WWI, but these began to slowly die down - until several very high profile lynchings in the 1940s. The efforts taken to hide cemeteries of the black community and obscure the role our former governors and sheriffs had in this lynching also demonstrate the corruption that existed and still exists within Georgia's political culture.
