Trailer mashups are often created for a movie that does not exist now or to change the genre of an existing film. These are derivative works as defined by the United States Copyright Act 17 U.S.C. § 101, and as such, may find protection from copyright claims under the doctrine of fair use.
The trailer mashups are not only a user generated form of digital creativity but a way to create anticipation for future releases, working in tandem with current movie trailers. Movie trailers are designed to give minimal plot detail and to create hype and anticipation. Fan made trailer mashups allow the audience to perform their own cinematic spin on current movie footage. This allows the trailer to focus on a specific actor or portion of the film. It could even change the plot or genre of the film entirely.

Moon Knight is an upcoming American television miniseries created by Jeremy Slater for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is intended to be the sixth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. Slater serves as head writer with Mohamed Diab leading the directing team.Oscar Isaac stars as Marc Spector / Moon Knight, a mercenary who suffers from dissociative identity disorder, with Ethan Hawke also starring. The series was announced in August 2019, with Slater hired in November. Diab was hired to direct four episodes of the series in October 2020, with directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead joining the series in January 2021 to direct the other two; Isaac was confirmed to star at that time, and used different accents to differentiate Spector's various identities. Spector dies, but is then suddenly revived, fully healed. He claims Khonshu wants him to be the "moon's knight", redeeming his life of violence by now protecting and avenging the innocent. While early stories imply Spector is merely insane, it is later revealed Khonshu is real, one of several entities from the Othervoid (a dimension outside normal time and space) who were worshipped as gods by ancient Earth people.
