The great thing about living in the Bay Area is its proximity to both snow and sand. It’s Spring Break and I take my daughter and her friend on a short trip down the coast to Monterey. We'll be staying at the Monterey Tides Hotel right on the beach and enjoy a bonfire and s'mores by the waves.

But first, we take a quick detour through Santa Cruz (nicknamed “Surf City”) which is world famous for its hippie surf culture. Less known are the Santa Cruz mountains with their beautiful redwood views and small, family wineries and farms. It's also home to the Mystery Spot, a famous Santa Cruz tourist destination with strange gravitational anomalies.
