It may look like a giant anaconda snake, but it's really a bundled mass of tree roots that invaded and took over the inside of an underground pipe used to connect a roof gutter drain downspout to a storm drain or detention pond. Roto-Rooter used a high-pressure water Jetter to loosen the root mass from the pipe walls before the service technician dragged the monster root from the pipe.
This occurred in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Roots can fill sewer lines and other underground pipes if there are holes in the pipe or gaps between pipe sections. Once inside, the tiny feeder roots expand and fill the inside of the pipe until drainage is completely choked off. Roto-Rooter can cut away and remove roots from pipes to restore full capacity drainage and prevent backups.
