Meteorologist Ashley Renee has your 8:15 am forecast. Good morning everyone and happy Monday! Hopefully you all enjoyed your weekend. We're starting our Monday morning with dry weather in Baton Rouge, but it won't be dry all day long thanks to the Gulf system (Invest 97L). A few isolated showers could move through before the morning ends so make sure you and your kids have your umbrella before leaving home. A few isolated showers and t-storms have already moved through parts of the New Orleans metro, river parishes and part of Ascension parish (Sorrento). Rain coverage will increase around midday as widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will move across our area. South Louisiana is under a marginal risk for flash flooding today. Invest 97L has a high chance of tropical development. This system is currently located south of the southeast Louisiana coast and it is continuing to move westward northwestward. This system could become a short-lived tropical depression today or a short-lived tropical storm. The next name on the list is Edouard. It'll likely reach the SE Texas coast by tonight or tomorrow morning. Regardless of its development, the moisture streaming in from this Gulf system will give us higher rain chances to start this week. Spotty to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected today and tomorrow in the Greater Baton Rouge area while rain coverage will be a little higher on the coast.
