Monte Carlo rang to the sound of Formula One engines on Sunday (May 11), two weeks before the Monaco Grand Prix takes place in the principality.
Over a hundred competitors were taking part in the Monaco historic grand prix meeting with seven races for cars from before and after World War Two.
The cars are run in the same condition as when they raced, so some have no roll-over bar or even no seat-belts for the driver.
The oldest Grand Prix car racing was a 1924 Bugatti while the latest were a McLaren, Ferrari and Surtees from the 1972 season.
Among the winners were Matthew Grist in a 1934 Alfa-Romeo and Roger Wills in a 1959 Cooper Climax.
Andy Middlehurst won the race for Formula One cars from 1961 to 1965 in a car that has a special Monaco history.
His Lotus 25 is the same car raced in the Monaco Grand Prix by Jim Clark in 1963 on his way to his first world championship title. Clark finished eighth in the race which was won by Graham Hill.
Clark's mechanic in 1963 was Bob Dance, and Dance returned to Monaco for the 2014 historic grand prix. He was the mechanic who prepared the car for Andy Middlehurst and saw his win on Sunday.
