Alex DePue, featured here in this 43-minute superhero set as violin soloist with the Grants Pass High School Orchestra under the direction of Krista Debolt. This video documents over half of the show from a very magical evening of music.
After a full day of masterclasses and outreach seminars with DePue, the students perform a solid list of actual classics, along with new compositions and arrangements by composer and guest conductor for the evening, Dr. Jason Heald.
Along with Debolt, Dr. Heald leads the students with selections he composed and/or arranged, some of which were specifically commissioned for the occasion.
With DePue in the soloist seat for the entire concert, he was especially enamored with conductor Krista Debolt, and the rest of the orchestral teaching staff at the Grants Pass, Oregon school district. "I've been from coast to coast, and seen with mine own eyes some of the travesties hardly passable as music programs in our schools, and YOU... are not one of 'em! Grants Pass, OR, and those working hard behind the scenes to be sure your students are afforded the very best, really lucked out when hiring Krista Debolt."
Now a 23-year veteran with Grants Pass school district, Krista Debolt got her own start by sitting in the very same chairs during her own study as a high school student (violin), participating in the very same orchestra program she now runs...
