Randomness is natural in the real world. It is unnatural in the miniature worlds and models we paint. Therefore, modeling & painting randomness instills distinct realism. Learning to build & paint randomness is a learned skill that takes a little practice.
It helps to think about the application while forcing randomness as you consciously avoid symmetry. Symmetry comes naturally to everyone. Randomness does not come naturally when we build and paint. Therefore, we need to consciously force our hand to instill randomness in our application.
