In this video, the model railroad club “MTD Treinenclub” from Edegem, Belgium, presents its superb model railway layout in HO scale, called “Den Overslag”. The reason for building this model train layout was the wish to be able to use a small layout for shunting operations. Thus, an L-shaped layout was created on a footprint of about 1.90 m x 0.90 m with a depth of 0.30 m.
The focus is on a freight station or loading station of the Belgian State Railways, today known as National Railway Company of Belgium (“Nationale Maatschappij der Belgische Spoorwegen” or “Société nationale des chemins de fer belges”). The basic idea of the model shunting layout is that mixed freight trains arrive at the station. While loading and unloading the freight cars, they were pulled by small shunting locomotives.
There are only two tracks in the yard, but these tracks offer enough capacity to handle all kinds of freight. In addition, there is a railway line that runs around the yard where commuter trains and other freight trains can circulate. The rolling stock on the outer circle is mainly short two-axle railroad cars. The model train layout is controlled by the “Lenz Digital Plus LVZ100” central unit. “Tillig Elite” track code 83 was used for the rails. The goods shed and buildings are made by manufacturer “Cités Miniatures”.
