MOCA Store presents Little Ugly Performative Lecture with Ann Hirsch and Maya Man @MOCA

The MOCA Store hosts an evening celebrating Los Angeles–based artists Ann Hirsch and Maya Man’s new project, Little Darlings. The artists behind the cult NFT project Ugly Bitches, Hirsch and Man are taking the collection from the screen to the stage. In a live lecture performance, the artists touch on themes of gender, self-optimization, and social media.

This event, presented by the MOCA Store, took place at MOCA Grand Avenue on Thursday, Mar 28, 2024 and included the launch of the artists’ “Little Ugly”' plushie creature, a physical stuffed toy that represents the spirit of the Ugly Bitches collection.

$Artists on Artists: Sanford Biggers on With Pleasure Applying the fractal and geometric logic of decorative quilt patterns to three-dimensional forms, artist Sanford Biggers remixes textiles as a way to explore his idea of sacred geometry. While he was in graduate school, Biggers met with artist Joyce Kozloff, who introduced him to the work of Miriam Schapiro. On how he was inspired by these two artists central to the Pattern and Decoration (P&D) movement, Biggers says, “Miriam, Joyce, and the P&D movement as a whole offered a model of how artists can address inequity aesthetically and institutionally.” Biggers leads a walkthrough of With Pleasure: Pattern and Decoration in American Art 1972–1985.$
