Moana 2 opened to a Thanksgiving 5-day North American record of $225.4M with a $139.7M 3-day and record $389M global, making a total of $460.4M U.S./Canada and over $1 billion worldwide, while The original Moana opened to $82M 5-day opening $56.6M 3-day over the 2016.The third installment and the first live-action film in the Moana franchise, the film was directed by Thomas Kail in his feature directorial debut from a screenplay by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Dwayne Johnson, Hiram and Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, and songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda. It stars Johnson (reprising his role as Maui from the animated past films) and Catherine Laga'aia in her film debut as the title character.
