These were my very first animation keys on Moana (Dec 2014). After finishing Big Hero 6 and Frozen Fever, our supervisors started an early “water test” for D23—while most of the crew moved on to Zootopia.

It was beautifully boarded by Chris Williams and, even though it began as a look test, it eventually made it into the final film. I used plenty of toddler reference (my daughter was Moana’s age at the time), animated the blue water rig “Gretchen,” and Dale Mayeda later used that geometry to build the water effects. (Final shot + my first blocking pass).
