MrGonzonator | MMX Escapement Triggered DB8: The final installment. @MrGonzonator | Uploaded July 2021 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
Thanks you to all the Discord community for giving me such helpful advice on this build
In particular I'd like to thank The Moen, who invented the kink trigger itself but also had the idea of the resetting arm on the trigger.
The original Kink Trigger:

This was such a cool idea on paper, that I couldn't let it go until I had seen it in the flesh. That escapement is so beguiling that I had to see it working for myself.
In the end, it nearly worked. It took hours of trimming and sanding and shimming to get it even this far. I likely have an hour of footage of all the ways this thing can fail.
But having come to terms with its failure, I returned to the Discord with a new perspective:
even if it had worked perfectly, the DB8 would NEVER have been fast enough to deal with the Conveyor feed, as it relies on stopping the marble feed on every turn.
An open tray is likely the only thing that can handle the 8 marbles per beat that the conveyor consumes. A hex stack like that demonstrated by Ross Cowie is my personal favourite.
