Professor L. Randall Wray discussing ways of driving acceptance of a currency. MMT argues that taxes are the primary method: the government declares that you must pay a tax in a currency that only it issues, meaning you must work for the government (or for somebody else who has worked for the government or otherwise obtained the currency) or else something bad will happen to you. But, although this is a sufficient condition to drive a currency, it is not necessary, and there could be other ways.
