In this video, I respond to the claim that Martin Luther King Jr.’s Grenada Project was an example of free-market enterprise.

A pastor recently argued that King’s effort to build a supermarket in Grenada, Mississippi proves that King was not influenced by Marxist or socialist ideas. But when you examine King’s own words, the historical context, the rhetoric surrounding the project, and what actually happened in Grenada, a very different picture emerges.

Was the Grenada supermarket really about individual entrepreneurship and free enterprise? Or was it part of a broader political and economic vision rooted in collective power, federal programs, wealth redistribution, and the social gospel?

This video takes a closer look at the Grenada Project, Booker T. Washington’s philosophy of self-help, King’s language of “economic power,” and the deeper ideological battle behind the civil rights narrative we have been taught.
