What do Indiana University, the CIA, MKUltra, and the Cold War all have in common? More than most folks realize.
In this episode of Babbling On in Babylon, we're taking a deep dive into the documented relationship between Project MKUltra and American universities, with a special focus on Indiana University here in Bloomington—the town I've called home for the last twenty years.
Using declassified CIA documents, Congressional investigations, historical reporting, and university records, we'll explore how behavioral science research during the Cold War intersected with intelligence agencies, why universities became attractive research partners, how organizations like the Human Ecology Fund were used to funnel research money, and what role psychology departments may have unknowingly played in that larger story.
We'll also separate documented history from speculation. Not every psychology study was part of MKUltra, and not every researcher knew where funding originated. The real story is often more complicated—and more interesting—than the headlines.
Most importantly, we'll ask a larger question:
What happens when institutions pursue knowledge without clear ethical boundaries?
And as always, we'll wrap things up by stepping back from the history and looking at it through the teachings of Yeshua, asking what wisdom believers can carry forward in a world where governments, universities, and human institutions have repeatedly shown both remarkable achievements and serious failures.
