0:00 - start
1:10 - about the graphics fix
4:01 - Bali Hai playthrough
13:58 - bunker diving & putt confusion
57:35 - soggy putt
1:01:39 - CPU hits ball into canal
1:04:43 - bodily blocked by tree
1:05:50 - Super Approach power shot
1:18:24 - didn't get prezzies (non-edit character)
1:26:01 - wrap!
The graphics look good and no random crashing here, either, so possibly that's been taken care of thanks to the graphics fix. You still gotta be sure to pick the right-hand option on that initial boot screen (the left-hand option is to create "system data," (I was inaccurately calling it "local data" or something in the video) which causes the emulator to hang) but other than that the game is running real smooth.
The gratuitous frozen screen chest jiggle at the end of the little cutscenes during gameplay may put me off playing as the female golfers.
I earned enough stars during the course playthrough for three presents or whatever they are, but I don't think I actually received anything--maybe because I was using a generic character rather than an edit character.
Even on this easiest course, the hazard placement quickly gets subtly fiendish--it took me a while to remember that the hitting distance predicted on the minimap includes the distance the ball would bounce off flat ground (most golf games show it that way, as far as I've seen--I just forget ; D)--and the later greens have their fair share of undulations.
Setting the contact point low on the ball didn't look like it increased the height of the hit significantly, when I was trying to see if I could use that to drop more directly down on a green. I was almost universally terrible at getting my approach shots onto the green anywhere close to the hole. 'p'
The effect of wind didn't seem too heavy, even when it picked up a bit in the later going; rain did seem to make the ball slow down a good deal more when rolling on the one putt I really tried with it. ... Actually wait no it didn't, not on the longer putt I tried in rain at 54.38. So never mind about rain I guess. Well wait okay that was in lower-intensity rain. In the steaming downpour on the next hole, on pretty much level ground, ~7.2 y hitting power only went 4.8 y (at 57.35). So that seems like there must have been SOME soggy effect there.
A tree can prevent your golfer from being able to stand where they'd normally need to be to hit the ball! In that case you just can't hit the ball in certain directions 'cause the tree trunk is in the way of your golfing stance. ; D Don't think I've seen a golf game do that before; I suppose I haven't played many fully 3D golf games though.
The Super Approach power shot really jerks your ball in the direction of the hole, almost too fast to see--but it looks like a one-time jerk, and in my case it wasn't directly at the hole, and it went past the hole a fair ways. Hrm.
The game displays the terrain grid thing you see when putting even when you're not quite on the green and NOT putting, which really confused me for a while on hole 2; I whiffed two shots because I assumed I was putting 'cause I was just looking at the grid--the fact that my SW was selected and it was showing the left/right accuracy meter SHOULD have clued me in that it wasn't a putt; and I suppose they show the grid since it could help when trying to hole-in from the edge of the green--kinda confusing though.
