This is the mix bus chain I use every time.

Pultec-style EQ with a broad boost at 70 Hz and a shelf at 3 kHz. Then an SSL compressor at 2:1 doing 3-4 dB of gain reduction.

Two plugins and the whole mix starts breathing together.
