It's no secret that Madame Rose is one of my dream roles. Can't they just go ahead and do a production where they turn Rose into Ross? ;) Well, I'm not waiting around for that to happen, so here's my performing "Rose's Turn" from the classic Styne/Sondheim musical Gypsy.
The character: Rose. An impossibly pushy, driven, depression era stage mother.
The situation: Louise, Rose's eldest daughter who is on her way to become world famous stripper Gypsy Rose Lee has just told Rose that she wants her out of her life and that she needs to "let go." Rose, feeling abandoned, has a mental breakdown and becomes the star she always felt she deserved to be in her own mind.
I tried to isolate the music from the OBC as best I could, but you can still hear Ethel singing a little bit under me.
