A short video of showing an astounding variety of floating ice formations peacefully "boiling" in a cauldron of freezing lake water. Air temperature: -7 °F, wind E 2-4 mph. In stereo.
The previous day there was no open water, west winds 25-30 mph, 12 °F, numerous lake effect snow squalls, brutal conditions for photography. I ended up mostly hiding in ice caves and taking pictures in the silent labyrinths of blow holes, tunnels and caverns while just outside it was total white-out. It was surprisingly comfortable in those caves, hidden from the wind and blinding snow.
