The Stones have said that the song is a reaction to their suddenly greatly enhanced popularity and deals with their aversion to peoples expectations of them after the success of Satisfaction. According to Keith Richards, Get off of My Cloud was basically a response to people knocking on our door asking us for the follow-up to Satisfaction ... We thought At last. The band got its name, at Morrisons suggestion from the title of Aldous Huxleys book The Doors of Perception, which itself was a reference to a quote made by William Blake, If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. They were unique and among the most controversial and influential rock acts of the 1960s, mostly because of Morrisons lyrics and charismatic but unpredictable stage persona. Background and release
Medeiros originally released the song on a small independent label at the age of 16, after winning a local radio talent contest in Hawaii.
