Minions & Monsters movie review — the Minions are back, Hollywood has a monster problem, and I honestly think this might be the best one yet.
In this review, I’m talking about Minions & Monsters, the new Illumination movie set in the Despicable Me/Minions universe. The film follows the Minions as they fall in love with making movies, try to create their own monster movie, accidentally summon real monsters, and then have to save the world from the chaos they unleashed.
That is such a ridiculous premise — and it works.
What makes Minions & Monsters stand out is that it gives the franchise a fresh identity while still delivering the kind of comedy people expect. The Minions are still chaotic, loud, silly, and completely unpredictable, but the monster-movie and Hollywood setting gives the film a new energy.
This is not just another Minions adventure where they stumble into trouble. This one feels like a playful love letter to movies, monsters, old Hollywood, and the chaos of trying to create entertainment when everything goes horribly wrong.
The comedy worked for me. The animation is colorful and energetic. The monster elements give the movie more visual variety. And the whole thing has a bigger sense of fun than I expected from a franchise this deep into its run.
