In 25 years of woodworking I've only recently started making cutting boards, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. The people I'm giving them to aren't complaining either. Cutting boards are a great project for exercising creativity and creating practical items without spending a lot of money, and without requiring a lot of expensive tools. Of course if you make something, you want it to last. This video contains my observations about finishing.
