Possible explanation of the "reversed effect" at 1:41:
"Each pixel can only sample from one block, and every other block is the same color. Near the end, the blocks are being rendered at around half a pixel in size, or two blocks per pixel. So, you get long runs of pixels sampling every other block, and thus all the same color."
