Gunpowder is one of the most useful mob drops in the game: You can use it to make some of the most fun and unique items in the game, being TNT and firework rockets. If you want to be able to blow up tons of blocks in survival mode, or if you want to have a lot of firework rockets for your elytra, then you'll probably need a creeper farm.
