This mobtrap design uses water to flush idle monsters every 20ish seconds. A compact piston clock provide a long delay for the mobtrap's floodgates!

Requires a little more time and materials to setup, but very rewarding! Perfect to hook an xp grinder to it.

Does NOT require cavern explorations and is highly efficient with over 2400 items/hours : About 4 hours to make.
