After two Japanese releases in a row, Americans finally get a new console mix in DDR EXTREME. And while the mix itself is good, the UI and a lot of other things about it... arent. Unfortunately, this also spreads to its Challenge (Oni) Courses. Oh and, they misspelled Marvelous for some reason.
The Way of LEGEND is not the longest course in the game, but is by far the hardest. And thats due to one thing and one thing only: modifiers. Every song in this course has a modifier, and they range from mildly irritating, to nearly unplayable. Strangely enough, the course starts with the worst modifiers and they get better over time. However, it was still unbearable enough that I recorded myself playing the first four songs in a row with no modifiers and played it back on the side while attempting this. The Legend of Max and V are readable enough so I didnt use it for them.
I really wish I didnt have to resort to cheating to get through this course. Its unfortunate that there wasnt a proper gauntlet of the hardest songs in the game, like MAX2s Ultimate 12. ONI DO is the closest there is but it doesnt feature any boss songs. Its also a shame because I think all six of these songs would make a great addition for a gauntlet. Trip Machine Survivor, V, and The Legend of Max are all well-designed charts for what theyre trying to accomplish. Looking further, Drop Out, Tsugaru, and Cant Stop Fallin In Love Speed Mix would be good candidates too. Oh well, we can only imagine what couldve been.
Also, if you can do this without looking at a guide or another play, you really are a legend.
