Today we test out the Elytra changes in Minecraft 1.18 Experimental Snapshot 7. This snapshot reduces the max speed of rocket boosting with the Elytra while keeping gliding speed the same. Additionally, the durability of the Elytra now only decreases when using rockets. We experiment to see what this means in practice.


This change was done, according to the changelog, to reduce chunk loading strain on servers and to level the playing field with other modes of transportation.
