Driving is "flexible" and provides "freedom" if, and only IF, it's heavily subsidized by everyone (not just drivers).
This would be tolerable if cities weren't 100% built for cars at the cost of everything else... including not building cities with PEOPLE in mind.
So, as we as a human species learn from our mistakes, cities are going to get better and reduce their dependency on vehicles.
To do that, it's going to take people to CHOOSE not to drive.
And that'll happen naturally for a lot of people as the capital cost of vehicle ownership rises and fewer cars are sold... because of their increased initial cost to acquire them PLUS the ever-increasing costs of owning and maintaining personal vehicles.
So, with all that said: we all need better alternatives to driving. Even those who prefer to drive benefit by "everyone else" using alternative modes of transportation because every person who's off the road is one less bit of traffic for EVERYONE.
AKA stop driving so much. Try only driving when you absolutely NEED to.
