Woohoo! It works! Had a huge piece of round steel laying around in the garage, cleaned it up and drilled a hole through it. I knew I'd use it for something one day.
It's a little heavier than the spindle, but as I add more things to the head, it will balance out more. I still have to mount the chip blower and loc-line tubing, motor and speed sensor cables, and the cable carrier track.
