The Milky Way is definitely not blue but what color balance choice in kelvin should I set my camera for when I am doing Milky Way Photography? The answer is simply choose ONE and STICK WITH IT! The color choice in camera is NOT important since you are capturing the Milky Way in RAW. Being consistent will make your life easier and help you see and recognize the color of airglow in your night sky as you keep sticking to the same kelvin every time you capture the Milky Way. What is MORE IMPORTANT is what color you choose in your post-processing and that is ENTIRELY UP TO YOU and IS AN ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION not an accurate representation.

June is the mid-point of the Milky Way Photography Season and marks the final month for Panorama Milky Way Photography. To celebrate that I am releasing a new Two Minute Tip video every day teaching a new aspect of Milky Way Photography! Today is Color Balance and tomorrow is Camera Practices!
