Tonight, Terell Stafford and Tamir Hendelman approach that legacy not as something frozen in history, but as living music: built on deep listening, fearless improvisation, space, swing, lyricism and the willingness to let the music go somewhere unexpected.
TERELL STAFFORD — TRUMPET
Terell Stafford is one of the leading trumpeters of his generation, a GRAMMY-winning member of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, acclaimed bandleader and influential jazz educator whose career has included work with many of the defining musicians and ensembles in modern jazz.
TAMIR HENDELMAN — PIANO
Award-winning pianist, arranger and composer Tamir Hendelman has toured internationally with his own trio, the Jeff Hamilton Trio and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, while becoming one of jazz’s most trusted musical collaborators.
Together, Stafford and Hendelman bring two formidable individual voices into conversation with one of the most consequential musical legacies of the twentieth century.
This is not a museum piece.
It is Miles Davis’s music doing what Miles always wanted music to do:
