Dozens of youths clashed with police in Ben Guerdane on Sunday, demanding faster searches after a migrant boat bound for Italy sank off Tunisia.
The vessel set off on Thursday, carrying mostly 15 young people from the area of Ben Guerdan. Only one survivor has been rescued after spending 48 hours adrift.
Passengers included seven family members and a couple expecting a child, according to human rights advocates. The National Guard reported 11 bodies had been recovered with three people missing.
Demonstrators from the local area threw stones, fireworks, and set fires, prompting police to use teargas.
Coastguard, military, and civil protection teams, supported by helicopters, continue searching.
