The Midwest Central Railroad of Mount Pleasant, IA, operates a narrow gauge steam railroad in conjunction with the annual Old Threshers Reunion. Since 1960, this 36" gauge steam operation operates a variety of locomotives around a 1.25 mile loop of track.

Henschel-built 1951. This German tank engine arrived at Midwest Central in 1982, and operated until 2011.
3:43 West Side Lumber 3-Truck Shay 9
Lima-built 1923, arrived at MCRR in 1966. One of the largest narrow gauge Shays built. This Shay from California was leased to Georgetown Loop for much of the 2010s, arrived back in Iowa in 2019.

Built by Baldwin in 1928 for the Kahului Railroad Company in Hawaii. Operated at the Georgetown Loop for 2005 to 2012, leased to MCRR in exchange for Shay 9. It was brought back to Colorado in 2019.
11:40 Surrey, Sussex & Southampton 2-6-0 6
Baldwin-built 1891, oldest operable engine at MCRR. Originally ran for SS&S in Virginia for 1891-1925, later at Argent Lumber Company in South Carolina for 1936-1960. Sold to MCRR, one the main engines for the 1960s to 1971, and 1988 to present.

Based in Hartford, Wisconsin, Soo Line 1003 operates on selective occasions. On the weekend of November 12-13, 2022, the locomotive was steamed up to make an appearance on the Hartford Santa Train and then a Trains Magazine photo charter the following day. 1003 shatters the otherwise quiet atmosphere of the Wisconsin farmlands with its thunderous bark as it hustles a fast-moving freight train along Wisconsin & Southern rails.
Since being restored to operation in 1996, 1003 has operated at several different railroads in Wisconsin and has made special runs to Chicago. It is one of few steam engines that can almost always be seen pulling a freight train whenever it runs.")

The Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad operates 24 steam trains on two miles out of Cripple Creek, CO. Running through the rugged Rocky Mountain scenery provides many impressive sights on the former Florence & Cripple Creek right of way towards Victor.
The locomotive featured is 0-4-0T 3, a 1927-built Porter tank engine. The 3 is the only American-built steam engine on the roster.")

Operated at Elizabethtown, PA is a progressing steam railroad throwback to the Civil War era. With an 1860s era replica 4-4-0 locomotive and period era passenger cars, the Harrisburg, Lincoln & Lancaster Railroad operates back and forth around the Stone Gables Estates.
Pennsylvania Railroad 4-4-0 331 is likely better known as Leviathan, aka Central Pacific 63. This replica was constructed by David Kloke over a decade, debuting in 2009. The locomotive traveled to numerous events until sold to Stone Gable Estates in 2018.
Today, the repainted PRR 331 puts on a good show on the Civil War era train. Departing Ironstone Station, passing Belmont Station and Herrs Mill Covered Bridge, and stopping at the Engine House. Here, passengers get to check out the Lincoln Funeral Car replica, built to original 1865 appearance by Kloke in 2015. The car sits on display, while three new built coaches see regular use.")
